In 1966, in San Francisco, two hiking enthusiasts started a small mountaineering retail outlet, selling high end climbing and backpacking gear.
It wasn’t long before they started designing and manufacturing their own brand of mountaineering equipment. In 1980 the company added extreme skiwear to their product offering.
North Face soon became the only manufacturer in the United States to offer a full range of skiing equipment, backpacks, skiwear, tents and sleeping bags.
During the 1990’s the range was extended to include sports wear under the Tekware brand, which offered products for outdoor sports such as hiking and trial runners.
